PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable low cost operation of a passenger conveyor by use of an electric power in a night time zone even in a daytime zone.SOLUTION: A passenger conveyor driving device has; a rectification circuit 2 which converts AC power 1 supplied to a building into DC power; a control board 3 to which DC power is inputted and which outputs a signal for driving an electric motor 4 and a magnet brake 5; the electric motor 4 of which a rotational action is controlled by a signal from the control board 3; and the magnet brake 5 which mechanically holds the electric motor 4 when an escalator is stopped and releases said holding when the escalator is started. The passenger conveyor driving device is equipped, on a DC link between the rectification circuit 2 and the control board 3, with a consumption power cost reduction device 8 including a power storage device 6 capable of charging and discharging, and a power supply device 7 which detects a start signal of the control board 3 and controls discharge of the power storage device 6. The consumption power cost reduction device 8 charges AC power 1, which supplied to the building in a night time zone, into the power storage device 6, and discharges drive power from the power supply device 7 for that the magnet brake 5 mechanically holds the electric motor 4.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
