PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicular authentication system capable of appropriately determining whether a portable machine exists nearby a vehicle when a distance is measured using sound waves.SOLUTION: A vehicular authentication system, for use in performing electronic authentication on the basis of communication between a portable machine 40 and a vehicular authentication apparatus 20 incorporated in a vehicle 10, includes: a first transmission-reception part 26, disposed in the vehicular authentication apparatus 20, for externally outputting a sound wave signal; a first transmission-reception part 41 of the portable machine 40, the part for receiving the sound wave signal; and a control part 22 for calculating a relative distance between the vehicular authentication apparatus 20 and the portable machine 40 on the basis of time from output of the sound wave signal to the reception thereof. The control part 22 further performs: determining a portable machine 40 exists nearby the vehicular authentication apparatus 20 if the relative distance is within a predetermined determination distance; and setting the determination distance in a case where a distance immeasurable sound wave signal is received before a distance measurable sound wave signal is received.

    【課題】音波を用いて測距を行う際に携帯機が車両近傍に存在するか否かを適切に判断することができる車両用認証システムを提供する。【解決手段】車両10に搭載される車両用認証装置20と携帯機40との間の通信に基づき、電子認証を行う車両用認証システムにおいて、車両用認証装置20に設けられ他方にむけて音波信号を出力する第1の送受信部26と、音波信号を受信する携帯機40の第1の送受信部41と、音波信号が出力されてから受信されるまでの時間を用いて、車両用認証装置20及び携帯機40の相対距離を算出する制御部22とを備える。制御部22は、相対距離が予め設定された判定距離以内であれば携帯機40が車両用認証装置20の近傍に存在すると判断する。また、制御部22は、測距可能な音波信号を受信するよりも前に測距不可能な音波信号を受信している場合には、判定距離を大きくする。【選択図】図1
