A life-saving appliance (L, Fig 1) is adapted to allow an article to be coupled thereto. The life-saving appliance includes an outer layer 12 of material having an attachment area 10 with two spaced apart openings 16A, 16B and a sheet 18 of material that is fixed to an interior surface 20 of the outer layer at the periphery of the attachment area. The two spaced apart openings are configured to receive a strip 14A of material for attachment to the article. A first end of the strip passes through a first of the two spaced apart openings and between the sheet and the interior surface of the outer layer, and a second end of the strip passes through a second of the two spaced apart openings and between the sheet and the interior surface of the outer layer. The article is attached to the strip, thereby coupling the article to the life-saving appliance.
