A control system 100 for adjusting an interior environment setting of a vehicle to promote driver alertness. The controllers are configured to obtain a driving score indicative of the alertness of the driver and compare the score to a threshold value. The threshold value indicating a reduction in the alertness of the driver and in response to the threshold being breached adjust a setting associated with the ambient condition of the interior of the vehicle. The alert may be lights, sound, temperature, seat settings or infotainment level. The system may use the trajectory of the vehicle coupled with the driving score to determine the alertness of the driver.
