A long range wireless power transfer system 100 configured to transfer a directionally focused beam of wireless power. The system comprises: a transmitter 102 to generate and transmit a microwave signal 101, the transmitter comprising: a power source 104, a power converter 128, a high-frequency oscillator 106, a power amplifier 132, a beam forming circuit 110, a phasing circuit 112, and control electronics 114; and a receiver 116 to receive and convert the microwave signal into a DC signal, the receiver comprising: a high-gain directional antenna118 , a rectifier 120, control electronics 122, a supercapacitor 138, and a battery management system 124. The transmitter further comprises a high-gain directional antenna 126 to provide a microwave signal having narrow beam width. The beam-forming circuit of the transmitter directs and steers the microwave signal towards the receiver and tracks the position of the receiver dynamically. A safety system may comprise sensor(s) that detect an object in the vicinity of the microwave signal and it may further determine whether a trajectory of an object will cross the path of the signal. The safety system may comprise a shell signal used to encase the microwave signal.
