A composite crush can 100 for a vehicle comprises a first end 102 and a second end 106; and an enclosing wall extending between the first and second ends, and comprising a top wall 110, a bottom wall (112, figure 3), a first side wall (114) and a second side wall 116. Each side wall is integrally formed with a lateral edge of each of the top wall and the bottom wall. A cross section of the enclosing wall is configured to taper inwardly from the first end towards the second end. At least a portion of the first side wall and second side wall, and/or top wall and bottom wall comprises one or more corrugations (132, 134) extending longitudinally between the first and second ends. The crush can may comprise sheet moulding compound, such as glass fibre or carbon fibre sheet moulding compound. A flange 104 may be integrally formed with the walls at the first end, and an end wall 106 may be provided at the second end and have a corrugation 130 contiguous with a corresponding corrugation in the first and/or second side wall. The crush can may be located between a vehicle body and a bumper beam.
