The invention relates to an air ventilation control system 10 for controlling air ventilation devices of vehicles 12a-c, the air ventilation control system being configured to acquire three sets of data. First data 16 is indicative of usages of recirculation functions in the vehicle(s). Second data 18 is indicative of vehicle states such as temperature, humidity or behaviour or number of vehicles when using the recirculation functions. Third data 20 is indicative of the properties of environments, such as temperature, humidity, air quality or weather data when using the recirculation functions. The system predicts the positions of at least one of the vehicles and controls the ventilation system based on the three sets of data and the predicted vehicle position. The recirculation function may be activated prior to the vehicle reaching a location.
