An array 100 of lights, e.g. light-emitting diodes, LEDs, may provide aesthetic mood effects in an aircraft cabin, wall or ceiling. The array 100 includes pixel sets 10, each being a smallest singly-addressable unit of the array, controlled as a single unit with non-separately controllable lights. Each pixel set 10 has plural lights 12 which may be driven by a single driver. A light 12 of a first pixel set 10 is located between lights 12 of a neighbouring second pixel set 10, such that pixel sets overlap, allowing merging and maybe smoother image boundaries. LED lights may be in a regular array of square, triangular, isometric or hex grid pattern. A lighting panel or display screen may have a diffuser covering the array, spreading light so that individual lights are not discernible, maybe providing uniform brightness. An anti-reflective coating may be on a surface of the diffuser screen. A secret-until-lit film may hide LED lights when not lit.
