Cell balancing circuitry 600 with series-connected cells 602-608, and first and second balancer circuitries 610, 620. The first balancer circuitry has a first set of capacitors 612 and a first switch network 614. During a first phase of operation of the first switch network, a capacitor of the first set of capacitors is coupled to a first cell; during a second phase of operation, the capacitor is coupled to a second cell. The second balancer circuitry has a second set of capacitors 622 and a second switch network 624. During a first phase of operation of the second switch network, a capacitor of the second set of capacitors is coupled to a first subset of cells; during a second phase of operation, the capacitor is coupled to a second subset of cells. The first and second subset of cells are different to one another; each subset includes two or more of the cells. In one embodiment, the first set of capacitors has a plurality of capacitors coupled in parallel between the first switch network and a common node. In another embodiment, the second set of capacitors has exactly one capacitor less than the number of cells.
