An aircraft assembly has a wing 11 and an engine mounting pylon 12. An aft end of the pylon is connected to the wing by a spigot 15 and at least one fastener 16. In use the spigot is configured to transfer only lateral load between pylon and the wing, and the fastener(s) transfer only vertical load between the pylon and the wing. The spigot may extend upwards from an upper surface of the pylon and be received in an opening (fig.2c,27) in a lower surface of the wing. The opening may be a slot (fig.2a,27a) having a long axis extending parallel to the aircrafts travel direction, so the spigot only transfers load perpendicular to the aircraft’s direction. Alternatively, the opening (fig.2b,27b) may match the cross-sectional profile of the spigot such that relative lateral movement of the spigot and the opening is prevented, allowing the spigot to transfer loads both parallel and perpendicular to the aircraft’s direction of travel. Preferably, the wing has a fitting (fig.3c,312) attached to a lower surface cover, engaging the spigot and fastener(s); the vertical height (fig.3d,h) of the fitting is preferably less than 100mm for use with ultra-high bypass ratio (UHBR) engines.
