A method of configuring a tyre monitoring device (e.g. a tyre-mounted sensor of a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) for an aircraft). The sensor (10; fig. 1) enters a configuration mode 804, preferably in response to a wireless instruction 802 from a configuration device (14; fig. 1) or control device (12; fig.1). The command may be made using a short-range communication protocol, e.g. radio frequency (RFID) or near field communication (NFC), or a longer range protocol, e.g. Wi-Fi ®. The sensor then transmits a request for configuration data 806 to a second device (e.g. the control device 12 or configuration device 14; fig. 1). The sensor then receives configuration data from the second device and the sensor is configured 814 using the data, e.g. reference pressure, sensor wheel position, vehicle identifier or compatibility data. The data may be sent using a different wireless communication protocol to the instruction. The sensor may transmit a second message 816 indicating the data is received and/or the sensor is no longer in the configuration mode. If a predetermined time period has elapsed 812 configuration data may be disregarded.
