A controller and method for controlling vehicle stability having first and second drive modes, and including a processor for switching the controller between the drive modes, the processor configured to: receive 420 a drive mode input signal from a drive mode selector and in response to the drive mode input signal, switch the controller from the first drive mode to the second drive mode; receive a brake input signal 445 from a first brake input sensor, an accelerator input signal 450 from an accelerator input sensor, and a release signal 430 from a second brake input sensor; determine whether the brake and accelerator input signals exceed predetermined thresholds; and if the controller is in the second drive mode and the first brake input and the throttle position signals exceed their respective predetermined thresholds, and the release signal is received from the second brake input sensor, apply a braking force to a front axle of the vehicle and apply power to a rear axle of the vehicle such that the vehicle remains substantially stationary whilst rear wheels of the vehicle slip. The vehicle then may perform a burnout.
