A device, suitable for temporarily covering a vehicle licence plate, comprises a rectangular panel 10 having a front face, a rear face, opposite side edges and a plurality of suction cups 11 disposed on the rear face adjacent respective side edges of the panel. The suction cups may be arranged in an array at each side edge, and help to ensure that at least one suction cup at each end of the device remains properly adhered to the vehicle. At least one further suction cup 12 may be disposed at an intermediate point. A lip (13 figure 4) may extend around a periphery of the panel and handles or tabs may be located on the side edges adjacent the suction cups. A logo, indicia or alphanumeric characters 15 may be located on the front face. In use, the device can be used to temporarily obscure the characters of the registration number given on the number, license or registration plate of vehicle, so that the registration number of the vehicle cannot be determined.
