A puncture detector 801 comprises a housing 802 with multiple compartments 901, each containing at least one floatation element (803; figs. 8, 10) and an opening (1001; fig. 10) for allowing air flow into the compartment. The floatation elements move when air flows into the compartments and may be polystyrene balls. Also claimed is a method for detecting a puncture 1301 in which the detector is moved over the inner tube 302 of a bicycle wheel (figures 12-13b). The opening may be a channel including a venturi with a thirty degree inlet and five degree outlet (see fig. 10). The housing may have a transparent cover 804 and be injection moulded from polypropylene plastic. The compartments may be in concentric circles (see fig. 9). The detector may fit into an aperture (205; fig. 11) of part (202; fig. 11) of a repair device (201; fig. 2), which may be secured around the inner tube to a second part (204; fig. 2) using clamps (204, 216; fig. 2). This pushes the detector out of the aperture so that the inner tube surface at the puncture site can be abraded and a repair patch attached.
