An aerodrome system for an aerodrome 2 comprises a plurality of light emitting elements configured to emit light from a surface of the aerodrome 2 upon which aircraft may take-off, land and manoeuvre; and a controller operatively coupled to each of the light emitting elements so as to selectively control the light emitting elements, wherein the light emitting elements form pixels of a display and the controller is configured to control an image displayed by the display so as to display and demarcate at least one runway 12 for aircraft to take-off or land, wherein the light emitting elements are spaced such that the controller may display the runway 12 with a substantially continuously variable orientation, particularly dependent on wind direction. The aerodrome 2 may be circular and may comprise a central terminal 20. Paired parallel runways 12a, 12b may provide separate take-off and landing facilities. The aerodrome 2 may be elevated above ground level. The design is particularly suited to STOL aircraft.
