A seatbelt restraint system includes a first member 32 including a first hole 34, a second member 38 including a second hole 40 and slidably coupled to the first member between a retracted position (figure 7) in which the first and second holes are aligned and an extended position in which the first and second holes are spaced from each other, a buckle housing 42 fixed to the second member, and a tongue 44 including a third hole 46 and insertable into the buckle housing to an inserted position in which the second and third holes are aligned. After the tongue is inserted into the buckle both may move against the biasing action of a spring 80 so as to cause the first, second and third holes to align so that a latch 94 may engage all three holes. When the buckle is to be disengaged button 84 may be pressed so as to disengage the latch and thus allow the spring to bias the second member and buckle housing to the extended, and thus more accessible, position.
