An apparatus for controlling movement of a motorised transport unit (MTU) 102 within a shopping facility 101 comprises a location controller 602 separate from the MTU, which comprises a transceiver 112 configured to receive a unique identifier detected by the MTU 102. The location controller also receives additional sensor information from the MTU 102. Based upon the identifier and the additional sensor information, the location controller determines a location of the MTU 102 relative to a mapping of the shopping facility 101. The location controller 602 may determine a destination within the shopping facility 101 and issue movement commands to the transport unit 102. The MTU may read further machine readable codes (such as barcodes or RFID tags) to aid location determination. The MTU 102 may detect multiple emitter identifiers simultaneously. The emitters may comprise radio, audio or light beacons.
