A placard for retrofitting to an aircraft passenger service unit comprises first and second layers 4, 6 separated by a light guide 10. A first signage area is provided which is illuminated by a low energy illumination means, e.g. LED unit, which is arranged between the first and second layers to act as an edge light for the planar light guide. At least one flexible connector 22 is provided to connect to a bi-pin connection. A further signage area that is permanently lit by photoluminescent material may also be provided. The signage areas comprise icons 16, e.g. “no smoking” or “fasten seatbelt”. A method of retrofitting an existing aircraft passenger service unit with such a placard is provided.
