A computing device in a vehicle 110 determines a plurality of lane change maneuvers 216, 218 based on the time to collision. The device determines a field of safe travel to execute the lane change maneuvers without braking to a stop, for example by taking account of manoeuvre time and reaction time, and displays the field of safe travel to an occupant. The device can display a prompt, which may be a visual depiction and may be coloured based on the time to collision, or may provide a haptic output, which may be a pattern indicating urgency and which may indicate a direction.
