Systems and methods are disclosed for vehicle remote park assist with occupant detection. An example disclosed vehicle includes range detection sensors (Fig.1, 104) and a remote parking unit. The range detection sensors determine whether a target parking space (Fig.1, 116) is narrow 406. The remote parking unit, in response to a request from a mobile device (Fig.1, 117) external to the vehicle, when the target parking space is narrow, scans, with occupant detection sensors (Fig,1, 108), the interior of the vehicle 418. Additionally, the remote parking unit, in response to detecting an occupant or passenger in the vehicle, sends a first notification to the mobile device 424. A narrow or tight parking space may be determined when a width of the space is less than a width of the vehicle with the doors open. If the target parking space is not narrow, the remote parking unit may determine likelihood that the space will become narrow 408 and scan the vehicle interior for an occupant. A warning may be produced if an occupant or person is detected in the vehicle.
