A system and method for simulating the location of a parked vehicle 504, by simulating the sound produced from its running engine being received by two or more sensors (510a, 510b) located on a subject vehicle 506. The subject vehicle simulation is contained within a three dimensional model and the simulation of the sensor outputs is further used to train a machine-learning model. The subject vehicle simulation may further include RADAR, LIDAR and cameras present on the subject vehicle 506; the data from these sensors may also be used to train the machine learning model. Furthermore, a vehicle 506 may be provided which has a controller programmed with the machine-learning model. From audio streams received by the controller, it may therefore determine whether the audio streams indicate an actual parked vehicle 504 with its engine running, and what obstacle avoidance needs to be performed in regards to a potential path of the parked vehicle. This system may be used in the scenario of a parking area 500 with one or more vehicles (502, 504) and may be used to detect a parked vehicle which is about to move, possibly into the path of the current vehicle 506 resulting in a collision
