A hatch assembly 110 including a cover 112 with a frame assembly including an outer frame 120 and an inner frame 124 situated radially inwardly of the outer frame 120 and releasably secured thereto by releasable securing means 130. Release of the securing means allows the outer frame to be released from other parts of the hatch assembly to allow the hatch assembly to be opened while leaving the outer frame secured. The application also discloses a hatch assembly (2, Fig 6) which includes a hatch (6, Fig 6) and an actuation mechanism (4, Fig 6) configured to firstly open and close the hatch and secondly lock the hatch in a closed position. The hatch has two opposed sides (8, Fig 6) each bearing two spaced hatch camming surfaces (38, Fig 6), the actuation mechanism including a linkage (46, Fig 6) adjacent each side of the hatch. Each linkage is connected to the adjacent side of the hatch for opening and closing the hatch and bearing linkage camming surfaces (68 and 76, Fig 7) are arranged to engage the hatch camming surfaces, to effect locking of the hatch.
