A vehicle frame includes a first 14 and second 16 frame rails spaced from each other. A casing 18 is supported by the first frame rail, and elongated in in a direction D extending away from the second frame rail, preferably cantilevered using a bracket (52, figure 4) which may be removably mounted. Alternatively the casing may be supported by the frame and disposed between a wheel 32 and a bumper beam 40, preferably in an outboard direction. The casing is deformable relative to the first frame, and houses an electronic component such as a powertrain control module or a positive temperature coefficient heater. Casing 18 may be made from steel, aluminium or a plastics composite. During a vehicle small offset frontal impact, the casing moves to a deflect some of the impact load away from backup structures. When deflected the casing may contact a front portion of a wheel to position it inboard of rear portion of the wheel to minimize load transfer to backup structures and/or detach the wheel to minimize the possibility of intrusion into backup structures.
