A safety device for preventing dropped objects falling from the basket or cage 2 of an aerial lift comprising one or more modular fabric skirts 14,16,18 each comprising top rail fastenings 20 arranged to be removably attached to a top rail 6 of the basket or cage 2 such that the modular fabric skirts 14,16,18 are wide enough to extend to at least touch a kick plate 10 of the basket or cage 2. The modular fabric skirts 14,16,18 form a perimeter around the basket or cage 2. The modular fabric may be made of a mesh whose holes may vary from 2 to 10mm in size. The skirts may be fire retardant; they may have a wind resistance below 90%. The skirts may include a detachable mid rail fastening (22 figure 2). The bottom of the skirts may be held in contact with the kick plate 10, this fastening may be from magnets.
