Disclosed is an aircraft having a fuselage shaped to direct air downwards and sidewards, towards inlets of engines positioned close to the fuselage to receive a portion of the redirected air. Downward motion of air pushed away by fuselage may provide lift, while the partially compressed air entering the engine may result in fuel savings, cooler exhaust, and increased exhaust pressure. The air may be directed by extension cowls, and there may be side ridges on the shaped aircraft front to help guide air into the engines (figure 1). Scoops and/or shaped fuselage may direct air into an additional pair of engines placed towards the aircraft rear (figure 2). Engines may be placed within brackets containing pivots and hydraulic rams may control the engine exhaust plume angle relative to the fuselage (figure 3). Hinged deflection plates fixed over strategic parts of the shaped fuselage may direct air away from an engine when raised and allow air to be directed into an engine when lowered to control the amount of air entering an engine.
