A device 102 may receive or generate an output signal corresponding to a code which can be used to control a vehicle. For example, a smartphone may receive or generate a QR code (RTM, two-dimensional matrix barcode) which can be displayed to a vehicle to unlock the vehicle’s doors. The device may generate and process an initial signal (e.g. an indication of a user’s wish to make an unlocking request) to generate an input signal (e.g. the unlocking request itself) which can be processed to produce the output signal (e.g. the QR code). The processing may take place at a remote cloud server 104 over network 106. The vehicle may read the QR code using an existing rear view camera (RVC), front view camera (FVC), or side view camera (SVC). The vehicle’s QR code reader or sensor may be activated by a scanning request signal. The disclosure therefore provides quick response keyless access (QRKA) to a vehicle by unlocking the vehicle’s doors in response to a QR code displayed on a user’s smartphone and read by a vehicle’s existing camera. The QR code can also be used for initiating online payments.
