A blade 8 for a horizontal-axis wind turbine (HAWT) comprises a reconfigurable airfoil portion 22 for adjusting the aerodynamic properties of the blade and lengthwise lift distribution on the blade. The reconfigurable airfoil portion may extend only part way along the length of the blade, preferably wherein the reconfigurable airfoil portion has a length of up to 40% of the length of the blade. Preferably a radially-outer portion of the blade comprises a fixed airfoil shape. The reconfigurable airfoil portion may comprise a fixed blade 44 structure and a movable blade structure, or flap, 42 mounted on and configured to move relative to the fixed blade structure. The moveable structure may have an airfoil shape and /or comprise a cylindrical passage (64, Fig 5) with a bearing within to enable rotational movement. The aerodynamic properties of the blade can be adjusted to control the behaviour of the wake generated behind the rotor. A rotor, HAWT and method of control are also claimed.
