A self-propelled vehicle 100, that is operable without a driver present in the vehicle, provides a support function in an airside environment. The vehicle includes: a charge-receiving apparatus 101a that receives a charge from an external point; a charge-delivering apparatus 101b that delivers a charge from an external point; and a traction motor. The vehicle receives, or delivers, charge whilst in motion and/or whilst carrying out its airside support function. An airside support system includes a plurality of self-propelled airside support vehicles 100a-100c, 200 which are adapted to move over the airside space at an airport and to receive a charge, via a charging apparatus, whilst in motion and/or whilst carrying out their airside support function. A central controller 160 causes a first selected vehicle 100a to move close enough to a second selected vehicle (e.g. stairs) 200 to enable their charging apparatus 101b, 201 to be able to transfer power from one of the vehicles to the other. The arrangement reduces maintenance required on battery-powered airside support function equipment that is used intermittently. Bringing a battery charging vehicle to the equipment shortly before, or whilst, it is being used ensures that there is sufficient power for the equipment to perform its function when it is needed.
