The present invention relates to a method for protecting an on-board electric charger of an electric vehicle, comprising the following consecutive steps of triggering electrical recharging (E2) by the charger, during which an AC charging current is converted into a DC charging current; measuring (E3), continuously during recharging, a DC charging voltage (V1) output by the charger; comparing (E4) said DC charging voltage (V1) with a predetermined threshold of fixed value; and ordering the recharging to stop (E5) if said charging voltage (V1) is detected as being below the threshold for at least a predetermined period of time. The invention applies to electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles when recharging by plugging into an external charging station.
