The invention relates to an automated method for inspecting running gears for rail vehicles, in which method it is tested whether properties of a running gear (1) are embodied as intended. According to the invention: at least a first test portion (4) is defined which comprises manufacturing details and/or design details or components of the running gear (1), which details or components are to be tested; at least one position of at least a first camera (39) and/or at least one angular position of the at least first camera (39) is/are assigned to the at least first test portion (4); an expected first target camera-image content (11) is assigned to the at least first test portion (4); a captured first actual camera-image content (19) is compared with the first target camera-image content (11); and a warning event is established when at least one deviation of the first actual camera-image content (19) from the first target camera-image content (11) is assessed as a fault by means of a machine learning method. This allows for running gear inspections to be carried out with a high level of quality.
