A microgrid charging system may comprise: a battery system comprising a first plurality of battery modules; a battery management system including a controller in operable communication with the first plurality of battery modules, the controller operable to: receive battery data for each battery module in the first plurality of battery modules including at least one of a discharge frequency, shock and vibration data, battery capacity data; compare the battery data for each battery module in the first plurality of battery modules to an airworthiness standard; and determine whether each battery in the first plurality of battery modules meets the airworthiness standard. The first plurality of battery modules may be cross-compatible with a second plurality of battery modules in an aircraft battery system.
