The invention relates to a method and device for determining a manoeuvre time of an autonomous vehicle, called the ego vehicle, travelling at a first speed in a traffic lane, said ego vehicle being preceded by a vehicle, called the target vehicle, travelling in the traffic lane at a second speed, the manoeuvre being intended to match the speed of the ego vehicle of the first speed to the second speed, said method comprising the steps of: - acquiring (201) the first speed, which is referred to as the ego-vehicle speed; - acquiring (202) a distance between the ego vehicle and the target vehicle, which is referred to as the inter-vehicle distance; - acquiring (203) the second speed, which is referred to as the target-vehicle speed; - determining (204) a manoeuvre time based on the ego-vehicle speed, on the inter-vehicle distance, on the target-vehicle speed, and on a predetermined inter-vehicle time.
