There is described method of determining at least one geometric property of railway track from sensor data, determining the location of a train on the track, monitoring a condition of the track, a railway system and related apparatus. Various examples include obtaining sensor data from sensor means on a train in motion on a section of the track; and using a model and the obtained sensor data, to determine the geometric property of the section of the railway track, wherein the model is a non-empirical force or acceleration model for the force or acceleration components exerted upon or experienced by either or both the train and the sensor means depending upon track geometry, the force or acceleration components comprising at least a gravitational component and a centrifugal or centripetal component.
