This application discloses a vehicle motion status identification method and apparatus, and relates to the field of autonomous driving. In this method, a traveling track of another vehicle may be predicted based on location information and motion information of the another vehicle, and at least two types of the following: lane information of a lane in which the another vehicle is located, lane information of a first adjacent lane of the lane in which the another vehicle is located, and lane information of a second adjacent lane of the lane in which the another vehicle is located, to obtain at least two predicted traveling tracks corresponding to the foregoing at least two types of lane information. Then, a motion status of the another vehicle relative to an ego vehicle may be identified based on the foregoing at least two predicted traveling tracks and lane information of a lane in which the ego vehicle is located, so that sensitivity to instantaneous kinematic information of the another vehicle can be effectively reduced and misidentification of the motion status of the another vehicle can be reduced in monitoring the motion status of the another vehicle relative to the ego vehicle.
