Onboard rail auscultation system, whose means of measuring the geometry comprise an auscultation computer (E3) with a software containing an enabled actuation algorithm, a microcontroller (E4); at least one odometry device (E1) and at least one inertial measurement unit (E2); a first artificial vision device (E5) at the lower part of the vehicle, formed by two measurement units (E5. 1, E5.2) each respectively associated with a rail, where each unit comprises at least one video camera (E5.1a, E5.2a) and a linear projection laser (E5.1b, E5.2b), and an electronic control device (E6).A method for auscultating rails, comprising the stages of switching on the auscultation computer and the electronic control device; a request for measurement; the processing (P) of data by means of the algorithm enabled in the software of the auscultation computer and; the successive transmission of the processed data to the electronic control device.
