The invention relates to a method (56) for automatically withdrawing a current collection device fitted to a non-guided electric vehicle, the collection device being movable in relation to the vehicle between a deployed position and a retracted position, the current collection being achieved through contact of the collection device, in a deployed position, with an electrical supply track of a ground-based electrical supply system for (a) non-guided electric vehicle(s), the track being integrated into a traffic lane and comprising a plurality of conductive segments, the method being carried out by the non-guided electric vehicle and comprising withdrawal (84) of the controlled collection device upon detection (58) of a travel risk, by detecting (68) the activation of a distress signal of the vehicle, and/or by detecting (70) a braking operation carried out by the vehicle at an intensity greater than a predetermined braking threshold.
