It is an object of the present invention to provide a main engine monitoring method, a main engine monitoring system, a main engine state prediction system and an operation status prediction system of a ship capable of monitoring a main engine state with precision comparable to actual measurements without requiring an actual measurement device so much. A set value and a major measurement value related to operation of a main engine 10 which is a main engine state parameter as an intra-model variable are applied to a main engine virtual model 40 made of a combination of physical models each representing a response per a constituent element of the main engine 10 of the ship A, calculation is carried out by the main engine virtual model 40 and a main engine state of the main engine 10 is monitored, a model parameter as the intra-model variable is changed using at least one of the main engine state parameter and the main engine state as a calculation result, and the main engine virtual model 40 is updated.
