Provided is an air supply system and a control method for the air supply system that can reduce the load when a compressor begins operating. This air supply system (10) comprises: an air drying circuit (11) that is provided between a compressor (4) for sending compressed air and an air tank (30) for storing dried compressed air, and that comprises a filter (17) containing a drying agent for capturing moisture; and an ECU (80) that controls the air drying circuit (11). The ECU (80) is equipped with a supply operation in which the compressed air sent from the compressor (4) is passed through the filter (17) and dried compressed air is stored in the air tank (30), and a regeneration operation in which the dried compressed air stored in the air tank (30) is passed through the filter (17) in the reverse direction and the drain-off that passes through the filter (17) is discharged from a drain discharge port (27). After executing the regeneration operation, the ECU (80) performs a compressor assistance operation in which the dried compressed air stored in the air tank (3) is passed through the filter (17) in the reverse direction and filled into the air drying circuit (11).
