A fixed-wing, fixed-rotor vertical-takeoff and landing (VTOL) unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) (10) includes a fuselage (12) extending from a fore portion (14) to an aft portion (16) and defining an upper section (18) and a lower section (20), a first pair of airfoils (24A; 24B) fixedly attached to opposite sides of the fore portion (14) of the fuselage (12), and a second pair of airfoils (26A; 26B) fixedly attached to opposite sides of the aft portion (16) of the fuselage (12). The first pair of fixed airfoils (24A; 24B) may be offset relative to the second pair of fixed airfoils (26A; 26B) in the upper section-lower section direction. In some examples, the first pair of airfoils (24A; 24B) defines a first airfoil pair surface area different than a second airfoil pair surface area defined by the second pair of airfoils (26A; 26B) so the first and second pairs of airfoils generate lift that urges the VTOL UAV (10) from a substantially vertical orientation during takeoff to a more horizontal orientation during flight.
