A pedal assembly (100, Fig.1) for generating electrical power in a vehicle is presented. The pedal assembly includes a pedal (125, Fig.1) which mechanically transfers the pressure exerted on the pedal into a linear motion of a shaft 210. The linear motion of the shaft 210 rotates a cylinder (220, Fig.2a). When the rotating cylinder (220, Fig.2a) applies mechanical stress on a piezoelectric transducer 310, a voltage is generated from the piezoelectric transducer 310. The mechanical stress may be the result of uniformly spaced protrusions 225 on the cylinder (220, Fig.2a) being in mechanical contact with a press element 320 during rotation, which would in turn apply mechanical stress to the piezoelectric transducer 310. A preferred method of providing rotational motion to the cylinder (220, Fig.2a) is via a plurality of ball bearings being guided along raceways incorporated with the cylinder and shaft 210. A harvesting circuit 340 may also be included.
