According to one aspect of the present disclosure, a battery circuit (28) is disclosed that includes a plurality of battery cells (16A-D). The plurality of battery cells includes at least one connected battery cell and at least one disconnected battery cell. A first switch (30) is configured to disconnect a particular one of the at least one connected battery cells, and a second switch (32) is configured to connect a particular one of the at least one disconnected battery cells. A controller (22) is configured to control the first and second switches based on a detected condition in the particular connected battery cell.
