When a seated passenger protection device (airbag) that has expanded and deployed during a side collision is supported from the rear side by the cover of an airbag case, a large bending moment acts on the cover, preventing the airbag from fully exhibiting its protective function. For this reason, an airbag case 20 is internally provided with an airbag 22, and has a cover 20b, the seated-passenger-side side wall of which can rotate upward, and the top edge of the side wall acting as the center of rotation. The surface 20b1 on the seated passenger side of the cover 20b is provided with a support member (rib) 30. When the inflated airbag 22 expands and deploys from an opening formed in the side of the seated passenger side of an arm rest 16, the cover 20b is pushed by the airbag and rotates upward. The support member 30 on the seated-passenger-side surface of the cover assumes an upright orientation, and supports the cover from the rear upon being positioned above the airbag case. The cover 20b resists the bending moment acting thereon during a side collision, and the airbag 22 is able to fully exhibit its protective function.
