A method and system for installing a fastener. A fastener installation system comprises a fastener (1006), a cooling system (1004), and a tool (1003). The fastener (1006) has a top portion including a dielectric material (1008). The cooling system (1004) is configured to cool the top portion (1008) of the fastener (1006) to stiffen the top portion. The tool is configured to install the fastener (1006) in a structure (1001) after cooling.
