A component for a vehicle comprising a plurality of projections (5) on an underlying surface (10) that, in use, opposes a surface over which the vehicle is travelling. The plurality of projections (5) define sacrificial elements and are configured to project substantially toward the surface over which the vehicle is travelling. The plurality of projections (5) being configured so that any impact erosion, in driving the vehicle, is concentrated on the plurality of projections (5) to protect the underlying surface (10).
