The invention relates to an optical detection device (1) for arrangement on a vehicle (100) for the purpose of detecting objects (106) in the vicinity of the vehicle (100), comprising at least one emitter (2) for emitting electromagnetic radiation (3) into an observed zone (101); at least one receiver (4) for receiving radiation (5) reflected from the observed zone (101); an optical arrangement (6), having a first optical unit (8) for the emitter (2) for guiding the radiation (3) into the observed zone (101); and a drive (12) for rotating at least the optical arrangement (6) about a rotation axis (A), such that the emitted radiation is moved along the azimuth. The drive (12) has an electric motor (32) having a rotor (34) and a stator (36), wherein the rotor (34) is coupled to the optical arrangement (6) and is arranged between the emitter (2) and the optical arrangement (6). The electric motor (32) furthermore has a central free space (40) coaxially with respect to the rotation axis (A) of the rotor (34), and the optical path (P1) from the emitter (2) to the first optical unit (8) passes through the free space (40).
