A system for storing input power and providing output power, such as for charging an electric vehicle, may include an alternator, a flywheel, an alternator, or any combination thereof. The electric machine may be electrically coupled to an AC power source and may receive AC power from the power source. The flywheel may be coupled to a rotor external to the electric machine. A generator may be coupled to the flywheel and electrically coupled to the controller to power a load, such as an electric vehicle, for charging one or more batteries of the vehicle.
