The invention relates to the technical field of hoisting of large equipment, in particular to a gantry crane for a prefabricated cabin type transformer substation and a hoisting method of the gantry crane, and the gantry crane comprises a binding mechanism which comprises a guide assembly, a binding assembly, a fixing assembly and a driving assembly; the hoisting mechanism is arranged on the outer side of the binding mechanism and comprises a portal frame and a moving assembly arranged on a cross rod at the upper end of the portal frame in a matched mode, and a hook is fixedly arranged at the lower end of a main traction rope arranged on the moving assembly in a matched mode; the two parallel guide assemblies form a group, the two groups of guide assemblies are arranged on the two sides of the fixing assembly in a 180-degree rotation mode, and the two binding assemblies are symmetrically arranged on the two sides of the fixing assembly; and the binding assembly comprises two winding rollers and two branch traction ropes, the two winding rollers are coaxially arranged and fixedly connected to the same second rotating column in a sleeving mode, when the gantry crane is used for hoisting a transformer substation, operation is more convenient, labor intensity is effectively reduced, and hoisting stability is good.
