The invention relates to the technical field of maritime work equipment, and provides a shipborne container hoisting system and method to improve the port operation efficiency and safety. The system comprises a cart track, a cart, a trolley, a lifting appliance, a winch and a winding drum, eight steel wire ropes are connected with the lifting appliance and the winding drum, and accurate lifting of a container is achieved through a complex winding mode and a pulley mechanism. The system adopts a multi-steel-wire-rope design, stability is improved, deflection and shaking are reduced, the fracture risk of a single steel wire rope is reduced, and maintenance cost is reduced. The hoisting method comprises the steps of cart positioning, trolley accurate alignment, sling winding and hoisting preparation, hoisting operation, container placement and the like, and it is ensured that the container is safely and efficiently hoisted to the designated position. The adaptability and flexibility of the hoisting system are improved, the logistics cost is reduced, and the transportation efficiency is improved.
