Hybrid chemical vehicle battery cycle life management is provided. A method for cycle life management of a hybrid chemical battery configured to power a traction motor of a vehicle. The method may include determining a drive load request made for the purpose of requesting the hybrid chemical battery pack to provide a requested amount of electrical power to the traction motor for driving the vehicle; and disconnecting the drive load request to a battery request adapted to provide the requested amount of electrical power from the hybrid chemical battery pack while managing cycle life of the hybrid chemical battery pack independently of the drive load request.
