A method of setting a component cooling system for a component of a vehicle includes generating a drive cycle plan for a remaining drive cycle; and calculating an instantaneous cooling requirement based on the drive cycle plan and the maximum temperature; and generating a control signal by means of which a continuous setting of the component cooling system is carried out during the remaining driving cycle as a function of the instantaneous cooling requirement; thereby minimizing the total cooling work during the remaining driving cycle; and a computing unit configured to perform the method.
